Basics of project management

The project management method developed to implement the Manhattan Project in the United States efficiently has been there for almost more than 60 years. Without mentioning, it is also said that the beginning of it was the establishment of the first-ever engineering department in 1886 at the Glasgow School of Technology by the Englishman Henry Dyer. As you know, It is now applied to various industries, and also the effectiveness of project management methods has been verified. At the time, there were three conditions attached to the path by which an artisan could become an engineer.

The first condition is that you have the technical foundation as the artisan. The second is to have a scientific foundation, which is to incorporate the results of learning. And the third condition is to have the industrial foundation that the industrialising of one’s inventions while attending the production process. I believe that project management is based on those three contents.

The basis of project management is the management activities of rational planning, implementation and control of these activities by integrating human resources and resources that are temporarily organised across conventional organisations to achieve well-defined schedules, costs and technical goals within a specific time limit. The project organisation (project team, or other such) is to be in charge of those organisational activities. Therefore, the project must be operated efficiently to achieve its objectives. To handle the task, the project’s three main elements as a management tool: process control, cost control, and quality control has to be thoroughly implemented. Then that project should be a success.

However, Are we indeed possible to efficiently run a project if we control and coordinate it by using the management tools that support it? For example, when you even consider customs clearance working abroad, It cannot be achieved by just following theoretical procedures. Those risks cannot be postponed in local, so they have been avoiding them by adapting first aid measures to the current situation. The same applies to quality control. We have been outsourcing most of our machinery manufacturing to overseas vendors. As long as they do it according to the contract, there must be no problems.

However, due to delays in creating specifications on the ordering side, problems with the production side’s capabilities, differences in the national character, and much else, it isn’t easy to proceed as expected; the cost is also increasing.

The success of the project and enhancement of motivation

Therefore, motivating everyone involved in the project should be a critical factor in its success. To increase motivation, indeed, it is essential to look a sense of purpose. However, still I should think the successful experience after repeated failures may be the basis for supporting that person. It is often mentioned that in general, there are only a few successes and more failures. In also said that the real thrill of that experience cannot be maintained for a long time because there are few successful experiences. Also, as we fail more and more, It appears we erase our successful experience one by one out of fear to that there are only a few successful experiences we have.

A good project manager must have been imposing himself a strict discipline to overcome his fear of failure and not extinguish the flame of slight successful experiences. Also, it is said that human beings have abundant application power. However, in reality, when we are faced with a difficult situation, it becomes hard to broaden our horizons and tend to see things from a shortsighted point of view. There are some people would stagnant their ability of thinking and get panicked.

Given those, I shall say that project management is the method of coordinating work and people efficiently, and that is the “Knack” to a successful project. Moreover, to achieve the project’s success, I think there should be a fusion between that tool which hard to express in words and the experiences.
